March 18, 11:35am (NZ time)

Yesterday two Latter-day Saint missionaries based on the Vanuatu island of Santo took a commercial boat to the island of Ambae where there are six missionaries. As communication channels have been down, no contact has yet been made with these missionaries. We expect to hear a report later today or early tomorrow. The Santo missionaries are carrying emergency supplies to assist those suffering from the effects of cyclone Pam.

Another two missionaries from Port Vila are flying to Tanna on a small plane today which has been chartered by the LDS Church. They are taking aid to the people in need there and they will also transport missionaries back to Port Vila.

  1. My daughter is one of the missionaries in Vila. I am so thankful that all have been accounted for. She has served the majority of her mission on Santo and considers many of the people"family" there. Continued prayers and hopefully we can keep the word spreading of the need there.

  2. My son is serving on Gaua. Is there any word on how the island fared? I was very relieved to hear they were safe and accounted for, but I'm still anxious to hear from him!

  3. Are the 6 missionaries on Ambae the only ones not accounted for yet? We continue to pray constantly.

  4. Yes, we are just waiting to hear word back on the 6 missionaries in Ambae. The cyclone did not hit this location as hard as others, so we are confident all are fine. We just don't have any method to communicate with them. They should be back in Port Vila soon. We will post an update after we have heard from President Brewer.

  5. My son is on Ambae. Why would they take the missionaries to Port Vila? We are very anxious to hear how he is but I know he will not want to leave the people there.
